The Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus gregarius) is a unique and eye-catching houseplant known for its bright, fish-shaped flowers and glossy green foliage. The plant has small, thick, and waxy leaves that are dark green and glossy. The leaves grow densely along the stems. The Goldfish Plant gets its name from its distinctive flowers, which resemble small goldfish. The flowers are typically bright orange or red and emerge from the leaf axils.
Size: Your plant will come in a 4" pot, with an average height of 4-5 inches. The plant can grow up to 1-2 feet (30-60 cm) in length, with trailing stems that make it an excellent choice for hanging baskets or as a cascading plant on a shelf.
Growth: It has a trailing or cascading growth habit, making it ideal for hanging baskets or elevated planters.
Care Requirements:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light can inhibit flowering. A spot near a window with filtered light is ideal.
Watering: The plant likes to be kept evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. It is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
Soil: A well-draining potting mix is essential. A mix designed for African violets works well, as it provides the right balance of moisture retention and drainage.
